  Linea Legal Latina  (LLL)

Is a legal hotline for low-income Spanish-speaking individuals.
We provide a coordinated legal "first responder" system so Spanish-speaking individuals receive legal help quickly and efficiently…
without being bounced from provider to provider.

Our mission is to provide efficient advice and referrals to Spanish-speaking individuals who have little or no access to legal advice.

The hotline is staffed by bi-lingual volunteer attorneys who provide legal advice in Spanish and, when appropriate, refer callers to government agencies or legal service providers for further assistance.
Línea Legal Latina is a unique collaboration between Volunteer Lawyers Network, CLUES,the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association, several Minneapolis law firms and other legal service providers.

  FAQs for Línea Legal Latina

     What is Línea Legal Latina?
LLL provides two types of services to Spanish-speaking clients of limited resources, the hotline for legal questions and the law clinic for in-person assistance with pro se forms and/or a consult with an attorney. All volunteer attorneys and non-attorneys are Spanish speakers. LLL does not expect volunteer attorneys to provide full representation.

     Where are the clinics located?
St. Paul Hotline/Clinic:                 CLUES, 797 East 7th Street, St. Paul, MN. (Next to the Mexican Consulate)
Minneapolis Hotline/Clinic:           CLUES, 720 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN. (Near the Global Market)

     When can an attorney volunteer?
The law clinics are on Thursdays in St. Paul from 11:00-1:00 p.m. and in Minneapolis from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
For the hotline, we ask attorneys to call clients back on Tuesdays between 2:00-4:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays between 5:00-7:00 p.m.
The attorneys make the calls from the comfort of their own office.
The clients calls us on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the designated times and they are informed that they need to be available during specific hours for the attorney to call them back.

     When can a non-attorney volunteer?
Non-attorneys may volunteer during the following hours:

St. Paul hotline:  Tuesdays  11am – 2pm
Minneapolis hotline:  Wednesdays  3pm – 5pm
St. Paul clinic:  Thursdays  11am – 1pm
Minneapolis clinic:  Thursdays  5pm - 7pm

What would a non-attorney volunteer do?
During the hotline, the non-attorney volunteers answer calls and obtain basic information from the client regarding their legal issue. This information is then passed onto an attorney who provides the client with appropriate legal advice and/or a referral. During the clinic, the non-attorneys assist the clients in filling out pro se forms. These forms are then reviewed by an attorney.
