Martha Delaney, Deputy Director
As Deputy Director, Martha supports the quality of legal services that volunteers provide to clients as well as respectful and accurate screening of persons seeking legal services. Her vision is that each client receives excellent services--and that VLN volunteers are supported in pro bono opportunities that are an effective and meaningful use of their time.
Martha started working at VLN in September of 2003. In 2004, she was named a "Rising Star" by Minnesota Law and Politics magazine. She has written nationally-published articles and brochures regarding pro bono work, including "Working Effectively with Pro Bono Clients." Prior to joining VLN, Martha was in private practice (mainly family law), mediation practice, and the Jefferson County (Wisconsin) Child Support Agency. In 1994, she and her business partner received Legal Action of Wisconsin's Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award in recognition for their volunteer work. Martha graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1991 and the College of the Holy Cross (physics) in 1986.
In Minneapolis, Martha has volunteered for the Indian Child Welfare Law Center, the Crazy Horse lawsuit website, Common Ground Meditation Center, and various restorative justice workshops.
